'Bastos, walang paggalang sa babae': Acidre tells Pasigueños not to vote for Sia

So disgusted was Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre with Pasig congressional candidate Christian “Ian” Sia's lewd joke about single mothers that he appealed to city folk not to vote for the latter.

This, even as Acidre admitted that he wasn't a voter there.

“Hindi man ho ako botante sa Pasig eh ‘wag ho nating iboto ‘yung mga ganitong klaseng politiko. Yung bastos, yung walang paggalang sa babae (I'm not a registered voter in Pasig let's not vote for these types of politicians. The dirty mouthed ones who don't respect women),” Acidre told reporters in a press conference via Zoom Friday, April 4.

“Well definitely, there should be consequences for things like this,” stressed the House assistant majority leader.

In a recorded speech that has since gone viral online, Sia was caught during one of his campaign sorties saying: “Para sa mga solo parent ng Pasig, minsan sa isang taon ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla pa—‘Nay malinaw nireregla pa—at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon pwedeng sumiping ho sa akin. ‘Yun hong interesado magpalista na sa mesa sa gilid.”

(To the solo parents of Pasig, to those solo mothers who still get their period once a year--I want to clarify, those with their period--and who get sad, once a year they can have sex with me. Those who are interested can list up on that table on the side.)

Acidre found Sia's joke offensive. “It’s time that we do not normalize this, even jokes, so we do not normalize this language and these actions."

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has since issued a show cause order against Sia, a lawyer, to explain his remarks and why he shouldn't be disqualified from the polls. 

The commission gave Sia 72 hours to respond.

“Tama lang ho na bigyan ng karampatang parusa kung meron man ang ating, ito itong kandidatong ito (It's only right to punish him if this candidate deserves it),” Acidre said.
