“In the end, ipaglaban natin ‘yung karapatan natin then we just have to move on.”

This was how Senator Pia Cayetano concluded the recent episode of ‘CIA with BA,’ alongside co-hosts Boy Abunda and her brother Alan.

In the segment ‘Payong Kapatid,’ the public service and talk program took on three different issues of scam. One involved a couple and their wedding organizer while another was a woman who raised concerns about toy charms she ordered. Lastly, they addressed a man seeking to claim his late brother’s bank money.

“Ang sakit. Hindi ko naman pwedeng sabihin na nagpabaya sila. Dapat listo talaga tayo all the time kasi anything that involves something na may value sa atin — sometimes, pera ‘yon, sometimes, it’s a friendship — kung anuman ‘yung may value sa atin, pagka-ingatan natin because minsan may manloloko, may pabaya,” Ate Pia said, reflecting on the situations they tackled

However, she reminded viewers: “Ang importante is we do everything sa power natin na ma-minimize, mabawasan ‘yan kaya kailangan maayos ang mga contract, merong mga pinagkakatiwalaang mga nakapaligid sa ‘tin.”

Meanwhile, Kuya Alan noted: “It’s possible you do everything right pero nagkaproblema ka pa rin, and it’s possible you blame yourself. But [you know], pick yourself up, learn your lessons tapos go ulit, go lang, laban.”

Tito Boy, for his part, emphasized the human dimension of these issues: “Maraming mga legal na problema na merong dimensyon na hindi legal. Bumabalik sa pagkatao, sa character, sa value… maraming mga legal na problemang maiiwasan kung hindi tayo mawawala.”

He also shared a piece of wisdom from his mother who used to say: ‘Kahit anong mangyari sa ‘yo, do not lose your sense of what is right and what is wrong.’ Ganon lang ka-simple ‘yon.”

As the hosts urged the viewers, scams test not only our vigilance but also our values. With the right mindset and precautions, we can minimize the risks while holding on to what truly matters — our integrity and resilience.
