2 missing as motor banca sinks in Quezon

GUINAYANGAN, Quezon – Two persons are missing and four were rescued after the motor banca they were riding in capsized on the Manato River between Barangay Balinarin here and Tagkawayan town, this province, on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Police identified the missing as Efimaco Hernandez and Backo Dimailig, residents of Barangay Santo Niño Lagkawayan in Tagkawayan.

Rescued were Batang Flores, boat captain; Eddie Hernandez, chairman of Barangay San Roque, Tagkawayan; Mergillo Dimailig, and John Clifford Butardo.

Investigation said the vessel on its way to Barangay  Manato in Tagkawayan capsized after it accidentally hit a pole bridge.

Police coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard-Guinayangan and Maritime police Tagkawayan for a search and rescue operation.

They have yet to find the two missing persons.
