Boy drowns on New Year's Day

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 12-year-old boy drowned in a river spillway here on New Year’s Day.

Police identified the victim as Abdulaziz Arabani Yacob.

AUTHORITIES conduct a rescue operation for a 12-year-old boy who drowned on the Pasonanca River in Zamboanga City n New Year’s Day.

Investigation said the victim and friends were swimming in a spillway of the Pasonanca River when his slipper was taken away by the strong current.

Yacob tried to retrieve his slipper but he was taken away by the current.

Authorities launched a rescue operation and retrieved his body.

Thousands of trooped to beaches and rivers and here to welcome the New Year.
