In celebration of Brazil’s 202nd Independence Day in Taguig City, Ambassador Gilberto Fonseca Guimarães de Moura emphasized the growing strength of Brazil-Philippines relations and highlighted the increasingly dynamic partnership between the two nations. Held at the Brazilian restaurant Uma Nota, 250 distinguished guests attended the event, including government officials, business leaders, academics, and diplomats, underscoring the expanding significance of Brazil's diplomatic and economic ties with the Philippines. The celebration served as a testament to shared values and mutual goals, reinforcing the deepening friendship between the two countries.
The celebration unfolded after Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira’s historic visit to Manila, marking the first high-level diplomatic engagement between Brazil and the Philippines in nearly 80 years. Ambassador Moura highlighted the significance of this visit, calling it a turning point in the deepening relations between the two nations. "This historical event underscores a simple fact: nothing can hinder the strong and enduring friendship between our two nations," the ambassador said, underscoring the shared history and strong connection between the two countries.
The ambassador also emphasized the increasing economic collaboration between Brazil and the Philippines, particularly in the food products, defense, and electronics sectors. Brazilian companies like BRF-Marfrig, Seara-JBS, and MINERVA have strengthened their presence in the Philippines, while Brazilian defense and aerospace manufacturer EMBRAER continues to forge partnerships in the region. Brazilian products and technologies are becoming a key part of the Philippine market, while future areas of collaboration include agricultural research, renewable energy, and educational exchanges.
Ambassador Moura also pointed to Brazil’s growing role on the global stage, noting the country’s leadership as the current chair of the G-20 and its future role as host of the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (COP-30). He emphasized Brazil’s commitment to addressing global issues such as climate change, an area of mutual concern for both Brazil and the Philippines. "We see these international platforms as opportunities to strengthen our commitments to a sustainable future," he said.
The event was graced by a speech from Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo Jose A. de Vega, who highlighted the importance of the Brazil-Philippines relationship and the shared vision of both nations. Ambassador Moura concluded the celebration by paying tribute to the national heroes of both countries and expressing his gratitude to his embassy team for their efforts in fostering the partnership.
The evening was also marked by cultural performances, with a band playing traditional Brazilian music, including samba and bossa nova. Guests enjoyed a dinner that featured Brazilian cuisine, further showcasing the cultural ties between the two nations.
