Barbers talks about admin Senate slate; here are 3 names from that list

Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers practically revealed on Thursday, Aug. 8 three names from the administration’s prospective Senate state for the 2025 mid-term elections. 

"Sa ngayon, hindi pa kumpleto (As of now, it's not yet complete)," Barbers, a senior member stalwart of the Nacionalista Party (NP), told House reporters in a chance interview. 

Earlier that day, NP and President Marcos' political party, the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), formalized their political alliance.

"Of course dahil dito sa alliance na ito, the PFP may also field their own candidate which we will adopt sa aming partido at ganoon din ang gagawin ng PFP sa mga kandidato under sa Partido Nasionalista," he said. 

(Of course, because of this alliance, the PFP may also field their own candidate which we will adopt in our party, and the PFP will do the same for candidates under Partido Nasionalista.) 

But which candidates is Barbers talking about? He mentioned two names that are shoo-ins for the slate: House Deputy Speaker Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar and re-electionist Senator Pia Cayetano. 

"Yes definitely, si Camille Villar is our no.1 candidate sa partido (Camille Villar is our no.1 candidate in the party)," declared the Mindanao congressman. 

Referring to Cayetano, Barbers said, "[She] also a re-electionist and she is under the [NP] and definitely kasama siya (she's in)." 

"Of course yung mga re-electionist na under na sa aming partido ay kasma na yun sa dose," noted the chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs. 

(Of course the re-electionists under our party are included in the 12.) 

Going by this qualification, presidential sister, incumbent Senator Imee Marcos is also part an administration senatorial bet. However, Barbers didn't mention her by name. 

Barbers declined to give any more names or clues about the administration Senate slate, although he admitted that NP was looking at a lot of potential candidates.  

"This is more than 12 that we've listed. So tinitignan natin syempre ang gusto natin yung mga winnable yung parehas ang vision sa partido at syempre yung merong prinsipyo," he said.
