'The fight continues,' says ex-VP Robredo after declaring 2025 Naga mayoral run
Her decision to run as Naga City mayor does not mean she’s leaving the causes she has fought for and her supporters behind, former vice president Leni Robredo said.

In an interview on NewsWatch Plus’ Zoom In on Saturday, July 6, the former official admitted that some of her supporters are disappointed that she won’t be seeking a Senate seat in 2025.
This was after she announced that she has already informed the Liberal Party (LP) of her decision not to run for senator and is instead going to run as mayor of her hometown Naga City.
“For now, I’ve decided to run for the mayorship of Naga. Tingin ko mas aligned iyong skill sets ko doon. Mahirap na ipilit to run for something na parang hindi aligned sa capacities ko (My skill sets are more aligned there. It’s hard to force to run for something that is not aligned to my capacities) just to hold a national position,” she said.
“So I’ve been explaining this to supporters who are quite disappointed that I’m not running for the Senate. Sinasabi ko hindi naman ako mawawala (I told them I am not going to be gone),” she added.
Robredo’s supporters, who call themselves “kakampinks” owing to the “Pink Movement” that came out of her failed 2022 presidential bid, have expressed their disappointments on social media that the former vice president has closed her doors on a possible 2025 Senate run.
But the ex-official maintained that the fight continues for her even if she isn’t holding a national position.
“Nandito ako (I am here) supporting the cause pero in a different capacity. I don’t think na iniwan ko iyong laban (I left the fight) because I’m not running for the Senate,” she stressed.
If she wins as Naga City mayor, Robredo explained that she can “showcase” and “start” programs “that are replicable in other areas” and show the people that “this can be done.”
“So, mas excited ako (I am more excited) about this,” she added.
Robredo, whose political career spans only nine years, was Camarines Sur 3rd district representative from 2013 to 2016 before becoming vice president from 2016 to 2022.
Her husband, the late former interior secretary Jesse Robredo, was Naga City mayor for nearly two decades.
