Lawmakers from the Davao region expressed their gratitude on Friday, Feb. 2, to President Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez for their continued delivery of aid to the victims of the extreme flooding in Davao Oriental and neighboring areas.

The solons said this act of compassion and public service contextualizes the "Bagong Pilipinas" (New Philippines) campaign of the Marcos administration.

“Ito ang tunay na Bagong Pilipinas: mabilis na aksyon, tunay na serbisyo (This is the true New Philippines: fast action, real service),” Davao Oriental 1st district Rep. Nelson Dayanghirang said in a statement.

Launched at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila last Jan. 28, the campaign espouses “an all-inclusive plan for economic and social transformation for citizens, and brings the government closer to the people”.

The lawmakers, namely, Davao Oriental Reps. Dayanghirang and Cheeno Almario, Davao del Norte Rep. Aldu Dujali, Davao de Oro Rep. Maricar Zamora, and PBA Party-list Rep. Migs Nograles all expressed appreciation to Marcos and Romualdez for sending aid to their respective constituents.

"Deepest gratitude to President Marcos Jr. and Speaker Romualdez for their compassionate support during this challenging time in Davao region. The gesture speaks volumes, providing not only essentials but also a sense of solidarity that uplifts spirits,” Almario said.

“Damang-dama namin na andito ang ating pamahalaan at laging handang tumulong sa mga mamamayan. Ito ang tunay na diwa ng Bagong Pilipinas,” he added.

(We feel that our government is here and always ready to help the people. This is the true spirit of the New Philippines).

On Thursday, Romualdez endorsed the immediate release of P150 million in cash aid and 51,000 food packs for Davao region.

The House members were each allocated P20 million in cash assistance, which will come from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The representatives also received food packs for distribution from the offices of Romualdez and Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Romualdez and Jude Acidre.

“We are very grateful for the aid and food packs sent through the tireless efforts of our President and Speaker Romualdez. These will provide our constituents lifelines, especially those affected by the floods in Davao Oriental. This big gesture echoes loudly in our hearts," Zamora said.

"These are the actions that matter, not the political noise. Your quick response with cash aid and food is a true understanding of the needs of the people,” the solon added.
