Pregnant NPA amazon surrenders

BACOLOD CITY – A 22-year-old pregnant New People’s Army (NPA) amazon surrendered to the 11th Infantry Battalion (IB) in Barangay Mantiquil, Siaton, Negros Oriental on Wednesday, January 31.

Maine, finance and logistics officer of Squad 2, Southeast Front (SEF), Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor (KR-NCBS), was in the armed struggle for two years and nine months, the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) said on Friday, February 2.

She turned herself in a month after two other pregnant members of the dismantled SEF, Sarah and Aubre, surrendered to the 11th IB and police in Barangay Tayak, Siaton last December.

The 3^rd ID stressed that the series of surrenders in Negros Island since the creation of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) in December 2018 is a testament to the government’s efficiency in addressing the root causes of insurgency.

Major Gen. Marion Sison, 3^rd ID commander, said the series of surrenders by top NPA cadres and members in Negros strongly manifests that the collaborative efforts of various government instrumentalities and the strong support of civil society organizations are effective in resolving the root causes of the insurgency problem.

“If we can maintain this trend and with the commitment and cooperation of our partners and stakeholders, we can already recommend the declaration of Negros Island in a state of Stable Internal Peace and Security by the end of this quarter," he said.
