Antipolo festivities continue with parades, concerts for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Marching bands led by baton twirling majorettes, the parade of floats, and a concert of brass bands marked the eve of the feast of the Immaculate Conception in Antipolo City on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The sidewalks along major streets near the Antipolo Cathedral were filled with people as they watched members of drum and lyre bands from various public and private schools. The marching activity was also part of the Antipolo Christmas fiesta lineup, which coincides with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Dec. 8.

The event showcased live performances of several drum and lyre groups in the early afternoon on Saturday.

Some schools based in the city have their own drum and lyre bands, which also participated in a contest at the Ynares Center.

Several brass bands coming from outside the province joined the Antipolo City Band in the concert dubbed "Serenata ng mga Banda" at Sumulong Park on Saturday night.

Television personalities were also in attendance during the float parade that was joined by Mayor Jun Ynares III and other local officials.

Traditionally observed every Dec. 8, the city fiesta in honor of the Immaculate Conception is a festive event.

The Antipolo Cathedral, also known as the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, was dedicated to the Virgin Mary's immaculate conception.

The promenade park fronting the cathedral was also filled with people watching the concert of the marching bands and enjoying the Christmas decorations and attractions at Sumulong Park, which include a giant Christmas tree lighted with colorful lights and other displays.
