ACEN Corporation's retail electricity unit has partnered with low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific to integrate renewable energy (RE) into its key facilities.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Friday, December 6, the firm said that ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) has begun 100 percent RE operations at two Cebu Pacific facilities: APlus and AirJuan, both in Pasay City.
These buildings, now fully powered by clean energy, are critical to the carrier's daily operations, housing maintenance and catering services.
"Shifting these facilities to renewable energy reinforces the airline’s broader decarbonization strategy which includes transitioning to a modern and fuel-efficient all-NEO fleet, implementing fuel-efficient practices, optimizing flight routes, and electrifying its ground support equipment," ACEN stated.
Sheila Mina, ACEN vice president and head of account management, said this collaboration will help Cebu Pacific reduce its carbon footprint.
"We are delighted to partner with Cebu Pacific to support their commitment to sustainable aviation," she said.
"By providing renewable energy solutions, we are enabling Cebu Pacific to reduce its carbon emissions and operate more efficiently. This partnership aligns with our mission of making renewable energy accessible for businesses across the Philippines,” she added.
Felix Lopez, Cebu Pacific chief human resources officer, also commended the partnership, stating that it will help cut costs.
"This shift to clean energy is an important component of further reducing our emissions, in this case, those generated from electricity use in our buildings and facilities," Lopez said.
"Partnering with ACEN RES also allows us to take advantage of the benefits of the Department of Energy's Green Energy Option Program, including cost savings for Cebu Pacific and supporting the country's goal to boost renewable energy supply,” he added.
