A total of P2,682,000 worth of marijuana plants was destroyed during a two-day eradication operation conducted by anti-narcotics authorities in Bakun, Benguet, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.

PDEA Ilocos Region Director Joel B. Plaza said that the government illegal-drug team uprooted and destroyed 12,800 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants and 3,050 pieces of marijuana seedlings from the six plantation sites covering approximately 1,900 square meters from Nov. 21 to 22.

To erase doubts on the legitimacy of the law enforcement task, Plaza noted that the fully grown marijuana plants and marijuana seedlings were destroyed and burned on-site right after the operation.

The operation was carried out in Sitio Manggahan, Barangay Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet.

However, the report did not mention if any marijuana plant growers, maintainers or workers were arrested by the government anti-narcotics authorities during the operation.
