PDEA: P55M 'shabu' seized from Liberian man at NAIA


A total of P55,338,400 worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" was seized by authorities from an arriving Liberian passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Monday night, June 5, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.

In a statement, the PDEA said that Philip Campbell, 34, arrived in the country via Qatar Airways from Doha, Qatar at around 7:30 p.m. and was arrested following an interdiction operation at the Customs International Arrival Area of NAIA Terminal 3.

Initial reports disclosed that the authorities discovered 15 improvised pouches containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu from the suspect.

The items were concealed inside the pouches of dried shrimps and condiments from his two checked-in baggages.

Authorities also seized the suspect's Liberian passport, two boarding passes, one Customs baggage declaration form, and a cellular phone.
