DFA reports increasing recoveries of COVID-19 afflicted Filipinos abroad

By Roy Mabasa  New recoveries among overseas Filipinos afflicted with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outnumbered new confirmed cases and new fatalities in the latest daily figures released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday. Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) The various foreign service posts (FSPs) across 49 countries and regions recorded 39 new recoveries, 29 new confirmed cases, and seven new deaths in the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East and Africa. “Given this development, the total number of recoveries went over the 2,200 mark and the total number of patients undergoing treatment is now at 2,700,” the DFA said. This now brings the total number of Filipinos afflicted with COVID-19 abroad to 5,259. Of this total, 2,700 are live cases or patients still undergoing treatment and 354 deaths. The Middle East and Africa remain the regions with the biggest number of cases among Filipinos with 3,274; Europe, 834; the Americas, 656; and the Asia Pacific, 495. The DFA assured that through its FSPs, it continues to monitor the status of Filipinos abroad and stands ready to assist returning nationals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
