Carlos Yulo advances to floor exercise final in Doha World Cup series

Carlos Yulo finally rediscovered his form after qualifying in the final of the floor exercise of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar Wednesday, March 1.

The diminutive, high-flying Tokyo Olympian displayed his usual flawless routine and came in second in the qualification with 14.500, just 0.100 behind eventual top qualifier Artem Dolgopyat of Israel.

Yulo registered a 6.5 degree of difficulty in his routine and scored 8.000 on execution.

Other qualifiers include Great Britain’s Luke Whitehouse (14.166), Japan’s Kazuki Minami (13.966) and Takaaki Sugino (13.566), Sweden’s Kim Vanstrom (13.666), Turkey’s Adem Asil (13.600) and Spain’s Nicolau Mir (13.466).

Southeast Asian Games medalist Juancho Besana, however, failed to advance after landing 23rd with a score of 12.733.

Yulo, meanwhile, remained in the reserved list in the rings after finishing 11th in the apparatus. He scored 14.166 following a 5.700 degree of difficulty and 8.466 in execution.

Yulo and Besana continued to campaign for more final berths in the remaining apparatus in horizontal bar, vault and parallel bars.

This is the second leg of the World Series with the first leg concluding only last week in Cottbus, Germany.

In that leg, Yulo failed to progress in his pet event, floor exercise, but managed a bronze medal in the parallel bars.
