DPWH completes seawall project in Cagayan coastal community
Residents of Barangay Santa Maria in Buguey town of Cagayan are now safe from big waves, soil erosion, and flooding after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the P19.7 million renovation of the damaged seawall.

The new seawall will now protect residents from overflow and big sea waves caused by extreme weather, according to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing report from Cagayan First District Engineer Oscar G. Gumiran.
Gumiran said the repair was done as the previous seawall has deteriorated and had been damaged over time.
“With the project’s completion, this coastal community is more prepared in case of extreme weather events, ensuring a safer and more prosperous future for its residents,” said Gumiran.
“The project protects livelihoods, particularly in the fishing and tourism sectors, which are vital to the region's economic growth,” he added. (Trixee Rosel)
