University of Santo Tomas bounced back with a 25-16, 28-26, 25-21 sweep of Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday, March 1, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

UST managed to survive FEU’s second-set comeback to bring itself to the win column after a painful five-setter opening loss to the De La Salle University last Feb. 26.

Eya Laure steered The Golden Tigresses with 17 points off 14 attacks, two blocks and an ace for an even record of 1-1 in the standings, while Jonna Perdido had a 12-point outing of her own.

Down by three in the third set after a costly error, 22-19, Laure would get back on her feet with an off-speed shot before FEU completely blew away the lead with back-to-back errors that tied the game.

From then on, the Tigresses would held on until the last sequence with a Cassie Carballo block on Alyzza Devosora for the victory.

The Lady Tamaraws, who managed to snap their 11-game slide from last season, couldn’t follow up their victory with another as they absorbed a 1-1 slate.

Devosora paced the FEU with 14 points while Jovelyn Fernandez added 13.
