2 dead, 4 hurt in Leyte road collision


TACLOBAN CITY – Two persons, including a policeman, died while four others were seriously injured in a collision between two vehicles in Poblacion District 4, Julita, Leyte on Monday, Feb. 27.

The fatalities were identified as motorcycle driver Patrolman Vincent Paul Abad, assigned to the Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, and Noli Caña, a resident of Julita and the driver of the pickup truck.

Reports said that Abad overtook a mini-dump truck and did not notice the approaching pickup truck, resulting in a head-on collision.

Due to the impact, the pickup truck skidded and rammed into the slow-moving dump truck.

Abad and Caña were declared dead on arrival at the Burauen District Hospital in Burauen, Leyte.

Caña’s passengers – Jonaliza Maldo, Christine Codilla, and Loreto Baloes – and the driver of the mini-dump truck Felix Cabudoc were also taken to the hospital due to severe injuries.
