WTFu by MR. FU: Rom-coms for free

Mr FU

One of my memorable hosting gigs during the pandemic was the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ (FDCP) celebration of Philippine Cinema under Chairperson Liza Dino. (hello po Direk Aiza!) It was a big event but due to the lockdowns, it was organized online. Some of the country’s big celebrities participated in the event. (punong puno yung monitor ng laptop ng stars!) The highlight of my stint here was my interview with National Artist for Film, Kidlat Tahimik.

Last week, FDCP which is now under the leadership of Sir Tirso Cruz III, invited me again to host their event. This time live at the open-air auditorium of the Rizal Park (meron palang bonggang venue si Dr. Jose Rizal sa Luneta ha!) titled: Sine Sinta: Pag-ibig at Pelikula, (hello naman Direk Rich Ilustre!) It was the launching of their series of free screenings of classic Pinoy Romantic Films. (mga pangkilig at pangemote!)

There are schedules of free screenings at the FDCP Cinematheque Centres and Trinoma Cinemas. (mananawa ka sa dami ha!) But for the launching at the Luneta, they brought the films “Labs Kita..Okey Ka lang“ of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal and “The Hows of Us” of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. (mahakahanap na nga rin ng ka-love team ko!) These films came from different generations but the guests who are from different age bracket enjoyed watching. (wagas kung maka-react! Kahit im sure iba sila napanuod na mga yan!) This is one proof that Pinoys really love rom-coms. (daming dumating na mag-asawa, magjowa at yung mga naglalandian palang!)

Since it was the start of the project, organizers included production numbers before playing every film. (ininvite si Rihanna bago nag-Super Bowl halftime show! chos!)There were performances from Jona and Bugoy Drilon who sang popular theme songs of romantic movies and teleseryes.

Sine Sinta is FDCP’s way of reviving the interest of moviegoers in supporting Pinoy films in theatres, giving tribute to classic romantic films of the country and celebrating the love month. The program also includes series of talks from writers and directors headed by Direk Jose Javier Reyes for students, film enthusiasts and aspiring filmmakers. Schedules of screenings and activites are posted on FDCP’s social media accounts.(sa susunod ang pinagbibidahan kong movie ang ipapalabas dyan!)
