GOSSIP GIRL: Post-Valentine shows in the following weekends up to March

Parokya Ni Edgar

First and foremost, allow me to thank you for a sold out Valentine dinner show I had at the Valle Verde Country Club with the Rockin’ 60s.

For those of you who have decided to go out this weekend because Valentine's Day is a weekday, here are some suggestions. For the millennials and Gen Z, the Vamps are coming to the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday, Feb 17.

Ice Seguerra

For the Gen X who support original Pinoy music like me, Regine Velasquez is going "Solo" at the Samsung Performing Arts Studio for two weekends. American singer Conan Grey will perform at the MOA Arena this Saturday.

And since a lot of Cebuanos follow my column, Ice Seguerra will celebrate her 35th Anniversary Concert at the at the Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu on Saturday, Feb 18.

If you are fans of the boy bands in the 90s, the Backstreet Boys and Westlife are also coming to Manila. The Backstreet Boys are going on their World Tour and will stop at the MOA Arena on Monday, Feb 20.

Backstreet Boys (left) and Westlife

The Feb. 20 show of Westlife at the Araneta Coliseum has been sold-out so they added another show also at the Big Dome on Feb 21. Wilbros Live will be bringing One Republic to the Philippines to perform also at the Araneta Coliseum on Feb 23.

If you want to enjoy and do something good and are a fan of Pinoy bands, there will be a benefit concert for Parokya ni Edgar’s guitarist Gab Chee Kee.

The Vamps

In his instagram post, the band's vocalist Chito Miranda opens his heart about Gab and his situation. “Gab is the heart of the band….bestfriend ko si Gab mula first year high school, and siya yung palagi kong ka-jamming bago pa naming maisipian bumuo ng banda. At kahit nung naging Parokya na kami….gitara niya yung sinasabayan ko tuwing gig, sa kanya ko kinukuha yung tono at sa kanya ko din tanataning kung nasa tono ba ko o wala.

"Late last year, Gabriel was diagnosed with lymphoma and has been undergoing chemotherapy for the past few months. Despite his situation, he was relatively doing okay and thought it would be best not to let everyone know what he was going through because he didn’t want anyone worrying about him. So he continued playing with Parokya. But soon after he was advised by his doctor not to play gigs muna. I asked my bandmates na kung puede, huwag nalang din muna kami tumugtog habang wala si Gab. Pero kinausap kami ni Gab and asked us to continue playing...so we did.

"He was financially prepared for the chemotherapy but now his family needs help with the overwhelming hospital bills..Initially, ayaw pa rin sana ni Gab ipaalam sa lahat kasi ayaw niya talaga nakaka-abala sa iba, but because of the situation, his partner Kha and brother Raoul convinced Gab to allow him to inform everyone because it would be easier to ask for assistance if the people who loved him knew what was really going on.”

December Avenue decided to help and teamed up with Parokya ni Edgar for a back-to-back benefit concert at the Amoranto Stadium on March 3 entitled "Para Sa Iyo." Tickets are available at P1200 at www.ticketnet.com.ph
