The cash assistance was the second batch of distribution under Educational Assistance Program (EAP) and was held in coordination with the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) at San Andres Complex, Manila.

The city government said the beneficiaries were composed of Grade 1 to Senior Highschool public school students from Baseco and first to fifth districts in the city.

It added that 983 students benefitted from the first batch distribution last year.

Each beneficiary received P5,000, which aims to aid the students' educational expenses.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and MDSW Director Ma. Asuncion Fugoso led the distribution. She reminded the students' parents to spend the cash aid for their children's education expenses, and not for loan payment.

"Nandito po ang inyong pamahalaan upang makatulong sa inyong mga anak at mga apo. Ito po ay isang tulong na ibinibigay ng pamahalaang lungsod ng Maynila sa bawat batang Maynila para sa kanilang pag aaral, (Your government is here to help your children and grandchildren. This is an aid given by the Manila city government to every Manila child, for their studies)," the mayor said.
