Chery Tiggo opened its 2023 season with a sweep of Cignal, 27-25, 25-19, 25-22, in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday night, Feb. 7, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The Crossovers maintained their endgame composure to turn back the HD Spikers' attempt for a comeback in the third set to complete the easy victory.
Shaya Adorador poured 16 points to lead Chery Tiggo including the last two points of the match while Mylene Paat and EJ Laure added 15 and 13 markers, respectively, to register their first win.
The Crossovers maintained their hot start through the first two sets but encountered a persistent HD Spikers side in the third.
Down by six in the third set, 2-8, Cignal steadily crawled from the deficit and tied the game at 14-all.
However, Chery Tiggo would knock some sense in itself by unleashing a 7-2 run capped by Laure’s back-to-back hits.
Cignal attempted to pull itself within two once more, 20-22, courtesy of Ria Meneses’ running attack followed by a service ace.
However, Adorador would keep the win on their side with two crosscourt attacks to finish the game.
Meanwhile, Ces Molina paced the HD Spikers with 16 points all from attacks.
