Septuagenarian yields high-powered firearm in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PNA) – A 73-year-old alleged leader of an armed group yielded a high-powered firearm as he surrendered to authorities in the province of Basilan.

Col. Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said on Saturday, Feb. 4, that Salihin Nulani Anda surrendered around 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, at the municipal gymnasium in Barangay Tipo-Tipo Proper in Tipo-Tipo town.

Anda yielded an M-14 rifle when he turned himself in to Tipo-Tipo Mayor Arcam Istarul. He is now under the custody of the Army 18th Infantry Battalion.

Verceles said Anda is the leader of the Gandilan clan, an armed group in Tipo-Tipo that could be active during elections.
