PCG resumes search for missing engine cadet who fell from vessel off Batangas

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has resumed the search and rescue mission for an engine cadet who fell overboard while a motor vessel was travelling to Manila five days ago.

In a statement, the PCG said the search and rescue for 22-year-old Marnel Vincent Balaba was halted a day after the incident was reported on Jan. 28 due to bad weather condition off the waters of Calatagan, Batangas where the incident occurred.

Balaba works for the MV Aleson Con Carrier 14 which was then heading to Manila from Zamboanga City.

"On Jan. 30, the team continued its operation but yielded negative results. The PCG Aviation Force also conducted an aerial search, but also failed to locate the missing cadet," the PCG said in a statement.

It said the PCG Sub-Station Calatagan advised barangay officials and nearby residents to be on the lookout and report to the nearest Coast Guard unit if the victim is sighted for immediate assistance.
