Eighty free Wi-Fi sites and hotspots were activated by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in 20 locations within Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

Rooted to its goal of providing Filipinos the access to opportunities, education, and information, the DICT, through its “Free Wi-Fi for All” program, activated 80 free Wi-Fi sites in CALABARZON.

The newly-activated sites may be accessed by the public in the following institutions: Polytechnic University of San Pedro and Santa Rosa, Laguna; Technological University of the Philippines in Batangas; Batangas State University San Juan, Lobo, and Malvar branches; University of Rizal System in Tanay, Antipolo, Pililla, and Morong; Southern Luzon State University in Tiaong, Gumaca, Lucban, Infanta, and Polillo, Quezon; Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Lopez and General Luna, Quezon; as well as Dalubhasaan Ng Lungsod ng Lucena, Quezon; and Colegio De Ciudad De Tayabas, Quezon.

According to the DICT, an internet speed of 256 kbps "will remain constant" across all sites. Users will be allowed to use 50 mb of data daily or up to 1GB of data monthly. In terms of connectivity, all devices - from smartphones, desktops, and laptops - will be granted access.

DICT Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo said the agency seeks to launch at least 15,834 free Wi-Fi sites across the Philippines in 2023, especially in remote areas, believing that this would help improve public access to ICT-related services.
