1st PH mart locker piloted in public transport

For the benefit of commuters who want to use Light Rail Transit (LRT) -1 stations as a pick-up point for packages, the railway operator is piloting the country's first smart locker in a public transport terminal.

LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) this week partnered with the Airspeed Group of Companies to activate PopBox smart lockers in all 20 LRT-1 stations to offer contactless delivery service.

PopBox, the first courier agnostic solution for smart lockers, has been operating for over five years now in 350 locations across Indonesia and Malaysia. It will officially launch its service at LRT-1 this month.

On the other hand, the Airspeed Group of Companies will serve as official logistics partner, offering the new fulfillment option to clients, such as e-commerce platforms, small and medium enterprises.

"We're giving our passengers a glimpse into our future,” said LRMC President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso.

"We want to enhance the commuter experience, make it truly world-class, so commuters feel like they are in a station going to other countries."

The new smart locker technology provides convenience and time-efficiency for customers, added Airspeed Group’s Chairperson Rosemarie Rafael.

"We aim to make it happen – from creating a better online shopping experience, to faster documents and parcels delivery," she noted.

Soon, the public can receive packages more conveniently. Then easy consumer package returns, will be part of the next phases of the partnership.
