DSWD-6 extends aid to Iloilo City fire victims


ILOILO CITY -- The Western Visayas regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-6) extended aid to fire victims in two barangays here.

No less than DSWD-6 Regional Director Atty. Carmelo Nochete led the distribution of almost P448,000 worth of relief goods to fire victims.

In coordination with the Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office (Iloilo CSWDO), DSWD-6 initially released 300 family food packs, 40 hygiene kits, 40 sleeping kits, 40 family kits, and 40 kitchen kits at designated evacuation centers in Molo District.

Nochete was accompanied by DSWD-6 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Arwin Razo and DSWD-6 Disaster Response Management Division Chief Judith Barredo.

In the latest report, the fire has damaged almost 300 houses.

At least 1,100 people have been displaced by the fire. The majority of the displaced were in Barangay West Habog-Habog with more than 800 while more than 300 were displaced in Barangay San Juan.

Aside from the aid distributed by both DSWD-6 and Iloilo CSWDO, private organizations have also been extending aid to the fire victims.
