The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has buried eight more unclaimed remains of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

In a statement, BuCor said that with the burial of the eight remains, a total of 148 of the 176 unclaimed remains “had been laid to their final resting place” at the NBP cemetery.

BuCor said the 176 remains were found last year kept at the Eastern Funeral Services in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Since then when the remains had been unclaimed, the bureau started burying them.

BuCor said: “The General Services Division (GSD) of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) with the assistance of its Civil Engineering Section and NBP Cemetery and Management Section successfully buried a total number of eight unclaimed cadavers of PDLs at the NBP Cemetery, New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City on Jan. 19, 2023.”

“Reverend Father Jason Bill C. Valeza, parish priest of the Ina ng Awa Parish with the assistance of other employees blessed the remains before they were finally entombed in their resting place,” it said.

It added that “under the leadership of BuCor Acting Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr, the bureau will pursue its reform programs to offer compassionate care to all PDLs.”
