6,000 bags of smuggled onions seized in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company and the Bureau of Customs confiscated some 6,000 bags of smuggled red and white onions during a seaborne patrol here on Wednesday night, Jan. 25.

Police and Customs personnel were patrolling the sea of Barangay Ayala when they intercepted wooden boat M/L Princess Nordisza.

Upon inspection, authorities found 6,000 mesh bags of red and white onions.

Nine crew members were held after they failed to present supporting documents for their transport.

The onions originated from India and labeled NBT Marketing Borneo.

The boat captain, whose name was withheld by authorities, said that the vessel was chartered by the owner in Taganak Island for Zamboanga City.

These smuggled onions were the third shipment seized in five days here.
