PRO2 honors bravery, heroism of SAF 44

CAMP MARCELO A ADDURU, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan -- The Police Regional Office 2, led by Brigadier General Percival A. Rumbaoa, honored the bravery and heroism of the 44 Special Action Force members who died in the line of duty eight years ago during a botched mission in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

The observance here of the National Day of Remembrance as per Presidential Proclamation 164 signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte was also attended by Police Major General Bernard M. Banac of Directorate for Plans who served as the guest of honor and speaker in a ceremony held at the SAF 44 Monument in PRO2.

The bereaved families of the fallen heroes joined the 142nd Special Action Company, 14th Special Action Battalion of the Philippine National Police-SAF, MGen Banac and PBGen Rumbaoa in the wreath-laying highlighting the commemoration.

MGen Banac relayed the message of PNP Chief General Rodolfo S Azurin, Jr. during the occasion.

“The PNP will continue to celebrate the lives and bravery of the 44 police officers who gave their all to carry out their duties, which is to serve and protect, through the commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance,” said Gen. Azurin.

MGen Banac cited the amazing level of bravery and love for the country demonstrated by the SAF 44 during the counterterrorism operation in Mamasapano -- something that he said the nation must never forget.
