Man wanted for cop’s murder 30 years ago in Batangas nabbed


CAMP GEN. MIGUEL MALVAR, Batangas City – A man wanted for the murder of a policeman 30 years ago was arrested in Barangay East Valencia, Buenavista, Guimaras on Monday, Jan. 23.

Batangas police director Col. Pedro Soliba identified the suspect as Cesar Andal, 61.

Andal allegedly killed Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Herminihildo Mercado on March 19, 1993 in Barangay Balete, Tanauan City.

The suspect was arrested on a warrant served by the Tanauan City police, Anini-y Municipality Police Station, Antique Police Provincial Office, and Jordan Municipal Police Station.

Andal was listed as a most wanted person on the national level and had a P60,000 reward.

Suspect is under the custody of the Tanauan City police.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old jobless man under the influence of liquor accidentally shot himself in Barangay Dagatan, Taysan, Batangas on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The victim was identified as Marlon Hobias, a native of Tiwagon, Bicol, and a resident of Barangay Dagatan.

The live-in partner of the victim’s brother told police that she tried to stop Hobias from playing with a caliber .38 revolver but the victim accidentally pulled the trigger.

Police recovered the gun from the scene and conducting further investigation.
