Baguio, Basco register 13°C minimum air temperature on Jan. 25

Baguio City and Basco, Batanes recorded the same minimum air temperature of 13 degrees Celsius (°C) on Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, based on the monitoring Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The 13 °C temperature was the lowest on Wednesday, which was recorded at 4:50 a.m. in Baguio and at 8 a.m. in Basco.

Baguio City, with an elevation of 1,500 meters, is hailed as the country’s summer capital.

PAGASA said the city has a mean annual temperature of 18.3℃, which is comparable to areas with a temperate climate.

The lowest air temperature recorded in the country was 6.3 ℃ in Baguio City on Jan. 18, 1961.

Based on PAGASA’s data on Wednesday, the top 10 stations that recorded the lowest air temperatures throughout the day were:

Baguio City (13.0℃)

Basco, Batanes (13.0°C)

Calayan, Cagayan (16.4°C)

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (18.6°C)

Tanay, Rizal (18.8°C)

Malaybalay, Bukidnon (19.0°C)

Sinait, Ilocos Sur (19.2°C)

Aparri, Cagayan (19.8°C)

Casiguran, Aurora (19.8°C)

Abucay, Bataan (20.7°C)

PAGASA expects cold surges due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan” until February.
