DICT, PTEs mount SIM card registration booths in Iloilo

As part of its goal to ramp up the mandatory Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card registration and to make the process more convenient for the benefit of Filipinos, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), together with public telecommunication entities (PTEs), mounted SIM registration booths in Iloilo.

DICT Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo on Sunday, Jan. 22, said the agency and PTEs established registration booths in Iloilo in time for the Dinagyang Festival – a religious and cultural event observed in Iloilo annually on the 4th Sunday of January.

Apart from mounting it in “strategic areas” in Iloilo City, a registration booth was likewise established at Iloilo International Airport.

“Our PTEs have already developed their respective execution plans to reinforce and to promote public awareness and provide assistance to the public on the registration of their SIM cards, including during major festivities in the provinces, such as the Dinagyang in Iloilo. This is part of their commitment to the DICT as we ensure the proper implementation and timely completion of the SIM registration,” said Lamentillo.

The DICT, in partnership with other government agencies, is also expected to establish registration booths in geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas in the country. The initiative aims to help Filipinos living in far-flung areas comply with the mandatory SIM registration.
