NDRRMC: Damage to agriculture, infrastructure due to bad weather now over P600M


The widespread flooding due to bad weather condition across the country in the past days have already resulted in more than P600 million worth of damage in infrastructure and agriculture, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday, Jan 19.

The NDRRMC report also disclosed that a total of 33 people were reported to have died while seven others were missing, mostly in Zamboanga region, northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas and Bicol region.

Based on the latest consolidated report, the damage to agriculture was at P444.3 million, the hardest hit was Cagayan Valley Region with almost P100 million damage, followed by Western Visayas with P75 million, and Northern Mindanao with P67.4 million.

For infrastructure, the damage was pegged at P206.9 million, the hardest hit was Region 4B with P131 million and Northern Mindanao with P44 million.

Almost 1.8 million from over 400,000 families were affected mostly by flooding across the country, more than 266,000 from over 65,000 families were forced to flee their homes.

Two provinces in Eastern Visayas and 14 towns mostly in the Visayas and Mindanao have already declared a state of calamity as a result.
