Marcos mourns passing of Pope Benedict XVI


President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has expressed the Philippines' sympathy over the death of Pope Benedict XVI.

"We are in deep sorrow upon learning of the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI today," Marcos said in a tweet on New Year's eve.

"The Philippines is one in offering our prayers for the eternal repose of his soul. We keep his loved ones in our prayers," the President added.

According to the Vatican, Pope Benedict XV passed away on Saturday morning, Dec. 31, in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery. The Pope was 95.
