Mayor Olivarez distributes e-trikes to Paranaque communities

The Parañaque city government continued the distribution of e-trikes to various constituent groups to augment mobility and public safety in its communities on Saturday, Aug. 7.

A total of 14 e-trikes were distributed by Mayor Eric Olivarez and 1st District Representative Edwin Olivarez at the Fourth Estate Subdivisions in Barangay San Antonio and the communities in Barangay Marcelo Green, both in the city’s second district.

The distribution of e-trikes was started last year and was a pet project of Rep. Olivarez who was then the city mayor to help in the mobility of city residents at the height of Covid-19.

“Today, we are honoring our commitment to our communities and homeowners’ associations to provide them with free multi-purpose electric vehicles that they can use for security patrols or as emergency transport vehicles and for commuter assistance,” Rep. Olivarez said during the turn-over of e-trikes.

The project called “E-Trike for Law and Order” was conceptualized and launched last year in response to the constituents’ clamor for transport during the pandemic when the operating capacity of public utility vehicles was severely restricted.

Mayor Olivarez announced the distribution of e-trikes during Monday’s regular virtual flag-raising ceremony.

The mayor said the electric vehicles are also considered more environment-friendly and more cost-efficient especially with the current high cost of fossil fuels.

More than 200 e-trikes have been distributed by the city government to date, benefitting all 16 barangays in the city as well as hundreds of homeowners’ associations and communities.
