Fajardo quick to move on from Game 1 heartbreak: 'Panalo talaga sila'

San Miguel Beer star June Mar Fajardo refused to dwell on their heartbreaking 86-84 Game 1 loss at the hands of Jayson Castro who drained the game-winner for TNT at the buzzer.

Instead, the 6-foot-10 gentle giant wanted to look forward into the second game and made sure that his team would bounce back and reset the series to equal footing.

“Panalo talaga sila. Talo kami, good thing Game One pa lang ‘yun. May chance pa kami mag-bounce back so bounce back na lang kami next game,” said Fajardo whose 24 points and 16 rebounds went for naught after Castro nailed a tough pull-up jumper to win it for the Tropang Giga.

“Wala na ‘yun, ‘yung referee, table official, sila ang may nakakaalam. Kung counted ‘yun, counted ‘yun. Kailangan mag-move on,” said the six-time MVP when asked about the final shot of Castro which sparked debate whether it should be counted or not.

After all, the game wouldn’t be decided in the final possession if the Beermen managed to sustain their first half assault that saw them build a 15-point lead, 45-30, late in the second frame.

Everything went downhill in the second half for SMB as aside from failing to find the mark against the TNT defense, the team also struggled containing both RR Pogoy and Mikey Williams who combined for 22 of TNT’s 33 points in the huge third quarter turnaround.

“Yun ‘yung kailangan i-address namin. Kapag nakalamang kami ng malaki, biglang nagrerelax ‘yung depensa namin. Nire-remind kami lagi ni coach. Kailangan namin i-work out ‘yun,” said Fajardo.

Aside from Fajardo, CJ Perez also reached double-figures in scoring with 21 but no other Beerman made the mark with Vic Manuel being the third best scorer of the team with nine.

“Maganda rin kasi depensa ng Talk ‘N Text. Bukas, may viewing kami. Kailangan namin panoorin kung saan kami nagkulang at kung ano ang kailangan naming i-adjust,” he added.

“Expected na magiging dogfight yung series na ito finals na, ready naman kami dun, mag boils down lang talaga sino gusto manalo.”
