Pangasinan-lawmaker launches 2022 Anakbanwa Creative Residency Program

Pangasinan 4th district Rep. Christopher De Venecia has launched the second year of the “Anakbanwa Creative Residency Program” for members of the creative industry.

“ a platform for creatives to create context and site-specific work. The grant awardees or ‘creatives-in-residence’ will be collaborating with a diverse cohort of local artisans, craft makers, and emerging arts communities in the province of Pangasinan," said the 18th Congress House Committee on the Creative Industry and Performing Arts Chairperson on Thursday, July 7.

The Residency Program, which originally launched in November 2021, will host creatives from September 2022 until October 2022; the program will provide accommodation, financial grants, and creative community immersion to participants at the Tondaligan Beach in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

The curator of the Residency Program, artist Jodee Aguillon, highlighted the residency’s opportunity to allow artists to “engage with the public.’

“The program puts as much emphasis on the process of creation as it does on the outcome and is intended to engage with the public through the works of the ‘creatives-in-residence’” Aguillon said.

To conclude the program, participants and their works will be featured in the Anakbanwa Art Exhibit at MacArthur’s House, a cultural heritage site and former home of American General Douglas MacArthur.

Applications for the residency are open until July 18, 2022. The three selected creatives will receive P100,000 each; P60,000 will cover accommodations, travel, food, and hosting costs while P40,000 will cover the material costs and expenses of the creative during the residency.

Creatives such as “architects, painters, writers, musicians, dancers, theater performers, photographers, videographers, fashion and interior designers, graphic artists, urban planners, chefs,” among others, have been invited to apply.
