Intensified security measures, stricter checkpoints up in Mindanao due to recent bombings

BUTUAN CITY – The regional command of Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) on Monday announced that more intensified security measures and stricter implementation of checkpoint operations are expected in all areas of The Caraga Region.

The measures are in compliance with the pronouncement of Philippine National Police (PNP) Officer-in-Charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr. placing all units of the PNP on highest security alert following the recent bomb explosions in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat; Koronadal, South Cotabato; and Isabela City, Basilan.

“Yes, we are mobilizing all our effort to follow this order and also to ensure peace and order in our region,” stressed PRO 13 Regional Director P/Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat, Jt.

Memorandums were already disseminated to all regional, provincial and city mobile force and battalion commanders, provincial and city police offices, and municipal chiefs of police, directing all unit commanders to maximize utilization of the intelligence community to monitor the region and implement proactive measures to combat any threat against security strictly.

The region’s top cop added that PNP Caraga Region 13 has already established close linkages with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other law enforcement agencies to boost security efforts and ensure public safety.

“We are exhausting all our resources to ensure peace and order in the region and prevent any bombings and other acts of terrorism in Caraga,” the region’s top police official said.

“Likewise, the people are encouraged to be extra vigilant and immediately report to the authorities any left and unattended baggage or presence of suspicious objects, especially in areas where there is an influx of people like malls, terminals, and markets, among others,” Brig. Gen. Caramat added.
