Boom Esports sweeps Dubai group stage

DPC SEA Tour I champion Boom Esports has extended its dominance to the Gamers Galaxy: DOTA 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022 after sweeping its group stage assignments that included top tier teams Team Secret and OG, and fellow SEA squad Nigma Galaxy SEA.

Boom finished atop the standings with a 3-0 record in the Group B of the tournament to secure a spot in the upper bracket playoffs of the six-day tournament where the lion's share of the 1 million AED (P14 million pesos) is at stake.

The Indonesian-based squad led by the Filipino trio of Timothy “Tims” Randrup, Erin Jasper “Yopaj” Ferrer and Andrei "skem" Ong started off the tournament like a house on fire after dealing European squad Team Secret a 34-7 drubbing in their Best-of-1 encounter.

Yopaj starred in the match with a 17-0-12 line on the Templar Asssassin while Lao carry Souliya "JaCkky" Khoomphetsavong added a 10-0-11 line on the Kunkka. Tims also set the tone for the squad using his Mirana, finishing with a 1-1-26 line.

Boom followed up the scintillating performance with another dominant triumph, this time, against NGX.SEA. It made quick work of its fellow SEA team as it took a 34-15 victory behind the impressive showing from Yopaj on the Queen of Pain and Indonesian player Saieful "Fbz" Ilham on the Death Prophet.

Yopaj unloaded a game-long brilliance of 11-2-14 while Fbz contributed a 12-1-11 stat line.

Boom then capped its group stage dominance with a stunning 38-8 showing against the new-look two-time The International champions OG.

Yopaj showed the way once more with an immaculate performance of 14-0-8 on the Templar Assasin while Tims dictated the tempo on his Weaver with a 12-2-17 line.

Boom was also supposed to play Virtus.Pro but the Russian squad had to pull out of the tournament as it claimed that tournament organizers allegedly threatened the team with disqualification if it doesn’t make a stand in the on-going Russian invasion to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Filipino-led Fnatic currently sits at the fourth spot of the standing in Group A with a 1-2 slate and can still climb up the standings and secure an upper bracket spot when it takes on TSM later today.
