Richard Bachmann eyes smooth transition as new PSC chairman

Settling things in order for a smooth transition would be one of Richard Bachmann’s priorities as the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

In a short message to Manila Bulletin, Bachmann said he would be meeting with Commissioner Willie Marcial of the PBA 3x3 and the FIBA LOC Management to discuss the next steps on his current responsibilities as soon as he gets back from the United States.

Prior to his appointment as the top leader of the country’s sports governing agency, Bachmann has been serving as commissioner of the UAAP and chairman of the PBA 3x3.

The former manager of the now-defunct Alaska Milk in the PBA thanked President Ferdinand "Bongbong Marcos" Jr. for his appointment.

“It’s a huge honor, and I would like to thank the President for his trust and confidence,” Bachmann said.

Bachmann will replace Noli Eala, who served for only four months.

Also appointed as commissioners are former Cebu City Sports Commission Chairman Edward Hayco and Philippine Paralympic Committee Secretary General Walter Torres.

He is expected to have his hands full with a busy calendar year in 2023 that include the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, the country’s co-hosting of the FIBA World Cup and several qualification tournaments for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
