Cloudy and rainy weather may persist in parts of Luzon and Visayas due to the low pressure area (LPA) and northeast monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Dec. 29.

PAGASA last spotted the LPA at 100 kilometers southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar around 3 a.m.

The weather disturbance has a low chance of becoming a tropical depression but may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

Rainy weather may also persist in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora due to the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan.”

PAGASA warned those in areas affected by the LPA and amihan to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light amihan rains.

The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the trough or extension of the LPA and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
