K-pop, Korean stars who visited PH in 2022 


2022 emerged as the year that people started returning to their normal lives after the Covid-19 pandemic.

This included those in the entertainment industry, which was crippled by the pandemic as restrictions were imposed.

In the Philippines, this year saw the resumption of in-person events such as K-pop concerts and fan meetings.

Here are the Korean and K-pop stars who visited the Philippines in 2022:

May 2022

“Begin Again: K-pop Edition” was the first international concert held in the Philippines since the 2020 pandemic. Korean artists NCT Dream, SHINee’s Key, WEi and Alice performed at the concert held May 29 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

June 2022

Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun, star of the hit dramas “My Love from the Star” and “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay,” held his “One Extraordinary Day with Kim Soo-hyun” fan meeting on June 10 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. “From the airport, I could see the warm greetings from my fans and I was very happy to see them,” he said.

On June 19, Korean actor Hwang In-youp (aka Hwang In-yeop), star of the dramas “True Beauty,” “Why Her” and “The Sound of Magic,” held his BYS Fun Meet in Manila at the New Frontier Theater.

On June 26, Korean actor and K-pop idol Rowoon held his “Ro Woon Live in Manila” fan meeting at the SM Mall of Asia Arena organized by Globe for its Kmmunity PH members.

July 2022

On July 17, New Zealander-Australian Sam Hammington and his sons William and Bentley, best known for starring in the Korean TV show “The Return of Superman,” met Filipino fans at their “The Hammingtons in Juanderland: Fanmeeting in Manila” at the New Frontier Theater.

On July 22, Red Velvet performed at the “BE YOU: The World Will Adjust” event at the Mall of Asia Arena.

On July 22, K-pop artist Yerin held her “Yerin ‘Aria’ Fansign in Manila” at the Gateway Mall’s Cineplex 5.

On July 23, GOT7 member Youngjae held a mini-concert titled “Sugar in Manila” and a fan signing event at the New Frontier Theater.

On July 26 and 28, K-pop boy band GOT7 member BamBam held fan signing events in Cebu and Manila, respectively. In Manila, he held the event at Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

On July 29, GOT7’s BamBam and Jackson Wang, and idol group Treasure headlined the “2022 K-pop Masterz in Manila” show at the Mall of Asia Arena with Sandara Park as special guest.

August 2022

On Aug. 6, K-pop star and actor Cha Eun-woo held his “Starry Caravan in Manila” fan meeting at the Araneta Coliseum. He also visited Cebu.

K-pop boy band GOT7 member Yugyeom held his “Yugyeom: Live in Manila” show on Aug. 19 at the New Frontier Theater.

Korean rapper B.I held his “1st Fanmeeting In Manila” on Aug. 27 at the New Frontier Theater with two shows in one day.

September 2022

On Sept. 4, K-pop idol group NCT 127 held their first ever solo concert in the Philippines, “NCT 127 2nd Tour Neo City-Manila: The Link,” at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE held their first solo concert in Manila, the “2022 (G)I-DLE World Tour: Just Me ( )I-DLE” on Sept. 11 at the New Frontier Theater.

The “2022 K-pop Masterz Ep. 2 in Manila” show was held on Sept. 23 at the Araneta Coliseum featuring K-pop idol groups iKON and ATEEZ, and GOT7’s Youngjae.

Korean actor Hwang In-youp returned to the Philippines and held his “1st Fan Meeting in Manila” on Sept. 24 at the New Frontier Theater.

October 2022

On Oct. 1, K-pop artist Jay B of group GOT7 made Manila his first stop of his “Tape: Press Pause” world tour with Filipino-Australian singer James Reid as his special guest at the New Frontier Theater.

K-pop boy band Seventeen held their “Be The Sun” concert in Manila on Oct. 8 to 9 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Meanwhile, the “I-Pop U 2022 Manila” show was held on Oct. 21 at the Araneta Coliseum, showcasing K-pop boy bands NCT Dream and Golden Child, Chinese idol group WayV, Korean rock band Xdinary Heroes and girl group Alice.

On Oct. 22, K-pop star Kang Daniel wowed the crowd at his first solo concert, ‘First Parade’ in Manila” at the New Frontier Theater.

On Oct. 27 and 28, K-pop idol group Tomorrow X Together (TXT) held the finale of the “Act: Lovesick” concert in Manila at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Despite Typhoon “Paeng,” people went to the “Hallyuween” show at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Oct. 29 to watch Korean acts CL, Epik High, Pentagon, KARD, Gaho X Kave and DJ Soda, P-pop group BGYO, and Filipino drag queens Minty Fresh, Lady Gagita and Lady Morgana.

November 2022

Korean star Ji Chang-wook met Pinoys at his “Reach You” fan meeting in Manila on Nov. 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Squid Game” star and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards best actress Jung Ho-yeon held her “Jung Ho-yeon Fun Meet in Manila,” organized by IAM Worldwide, on Nov. 11 at the New Frontier Theater.

On Nov. 19, boy band MCND held their 1st Asia Tour in Manila at SM City North EDSA Skydome.

The “Ripples for Hope” was held on Nov. 26 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena with K-pop groups Momoland, Everglow and AKMU.

Korean hip-hop group Epik High returned to Manila and held their “Epik High is Here Asia Pacific Tour 2022” on Nov. 30 at the New Frontier Theater.

December 2022

On Dec. 3, K-pop idol group ENHYPEN held their ENHYPEN Fun Meet in Manila to mark BYS’ 10th anniversary at the Araneta Coliseum.

K-pop girl group STAYC held their 1st Fan Meeting in Manila on Dec. 3.

On Dec. 8 and 9, the Be You 2 show was held in Cebu and Manila featuring TVXQ, EXO’s Chen and Xiumin, and BoA.

The “Head in the Clouds Music & Arts Festival” was held in Manila on Dec. 9 and 10 at the SM Festival Grounds in Paranaque featuring Jackson Wang, EAJ and other artists.

Seventeen returned to Manila and held their third “Be The Sun” concert on Dec. 17 at the Philippine Arena.

On Dec. 17 and 18, K-pop group Super Junior held their “Super Show 9” in Manila at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
