Barangay Ginebra stars Justin Brownlee and Scottie Thompson are poised to bag the top individual awards of the 2022 PBA Commissioner's Cup after steering the Kings to a Finals appearance against guest team Bay Area Dragons.
Reigning MVP Scottie Thompson is on track of bagging his second Best Player of the Conference award after finishing second in the race with 32.1 statistical points at the end of the semifinals.
NorthPort's Robert Bolick still holds the top spot with 33.9 SPs although the Batang Pier's quarterfinals exit, incidentally at the hands of the Gin Kings, is expected to become a huge blow to his chances.
San Miguel's CJ Perez is at the third with 31.3 SPs while Thompson's Ginebra teammate Jamie Malonzo, who held the second spot at the end of the eliminations, slid to the fourth spot with 30.9 SPs.
Don Trollano rounded up the top 5 with 29.1 SPs.
Also way ahead of his peers was Brownlee in the Best Import race, accumulating a total of 52.7 SPs while towing Ginebra back to the Finals – his sixth appearance since becoming part of the Kings in 2016.
Magnolia, which ironically also lost to Ginebra in the semifinals, has its reinforcement Nick Rakocevic coming in second with 45.5 SPs while San Miguel Beer's Devon Scott claimed the third spot with 44.8 SPs.
The two leading the race for the top individual plums is reminiscent of their Governors' Cup run last season where they swept the honors before eventually bagging the title at the expense of Meralco.
Ginebra stays in contention for the championship in the mid-season conference, facing up against PBA guest team Bay Area in the best-of-seven Finals. The BPC and Best Import awards are set to be handed out before Game 4 of their series.
