Cloudy and rainy weather may persist in some areas in Luzon and most of the Visayas due to northeast monsoon and low pressure area (LPA), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Dec. 23.

The northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” may bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA may prevail over Visayas, Palawan, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon, and Albay.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA may dissipate in one to two days.

PAGASA warned those in areas affected by the amihan and LPA to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light amihan rains.

The rest of Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
