Wish 107.5 and KDR Music House brought the 5th installment of Wish Date Concert series with a short film entitled "A Friend of Mine" and marked the first ever live concert in Davao City
Since the last concert of Wish 107.5 Braver Moira last Aug. 16, 2019 in Davao, last Sunday was the biggest comeback for this year's event due to the pandemic.
The anticipation for the concert was tangible as wisher fans coming from all over Mindanao flooded the SMX Convention Center. The night, without a doubt, the finest yet worthy of nostalgic, poetic and achingly heartfelt music and storytelling hybrid.
The highlight of the night - Jameson Blake as Troy in the short film, when love is as tough as it is sweet for a lovestruck teenager, whose relationship takes a turn to explore the dynamics of friend zone. A love story that echoes the virtues of moving on, growing up and acceptance. Joining Blake as his love interests in the short film are Mary Joy Apostol as Edith and Jana Indanan as Clara.
The excitement came to a head as screens on stage pulled away to reveal the start of the short film " Troy and Clara meeting after 20 years"
Davaoeña singer-songwriter and pride Peniel serenades the crowd with hit songs "A Friend of Mine" "Make You Feel My Love" and "Hopelessly Devoted To You" which brought the audience back in their 90s. Her soulful rendition just hits with all the right feels.
Joining her on stage is OPM singer Kimberly Baluzo soaring over the heart-wrenching love songs "It Must Have Been Love", "What About Love", "Perfect", "and Let The Love Begin"
Every scene from the short film between Troy and Edith portrayed a lot of emotions and relatable real life situations making the crowd cry, overwhelm and fall in love with the characters .
There was also a palpable confidence emanating when bands took over the stage like local bands - Day Break and Next Option and pop rock troupe - This Band. There were already massive sing-a-long moments with the crowd with their hits "Di Susuko", "Kahit Ayaw Mo Na" and "Di Na Babalik"
The latter teed up the emotional climax of the concert, with Peniel delivering her own composition " Moon's Offer" when the feels of the short film touched the crowd with a love never spoken.
It was indeed a celebration of music together with everyone's take away from the film about metaphors of love noteworthy.
The Wish Date, a letter-based concert series that features songs related to love story, narrated by Wish 107.5 radio DJ Dr. Clark, will continue to bring us a repertoire of explicit performances of different genres and eras from artists of this generation.
