CEBU CITY – The province of Cebu will light a Christmas tree that symbolizes hope and unity at the provincial capitol here on Dec. 16.

The Christmas tree-lighting ceremony will be held exactly one year after typhoon ‘’Odette’’ battered Cebu.

The ceremony will be attended by mayors of Cebu’s component towns and cities.

Gov. Gwen Garcia said the Christmas tree-lighting ceremony has the theme “In unity there is hope, and when we have hope, we can unite.”

Mayors from independent cities Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu will also grace the affair.

“We do not want to commemorate or dwell upon the misery and the hardship that we went through. We would wish that on this 16th of December, to send out a message of hope and unity,” said Garcia.

Cebu was badly hit by the typhoon that left more than 90 people dead. Infrastructure amounting to over P1 billion was also destroyed by the tropical cyclone.

For about a month, people in Cebu had no electricity and had limited water supply.
