An emotional Celine Dion was forced to cancel her European tour after she was diagnosed with a rare disease.
Addressing her health condition on Instagram on Thursday, Dec. 8, Celine revealed that she has been diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder known as the Stiff Person Syndrome.
The stiff-man syndrome (SMS, also known as stiff-person syndrome) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by stiffness and spasms affecting muscles of limbs and/or axial regions, according to the Mayo Clinic.
"Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff person syndrome, which affects one in a million people," the Canadian singer said.
"While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having.
"Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I'm used to.
"I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through…It hurts me to tell you that I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February," Celine added.
Celine has rescheduled the Spring 2023 shows to 2024, and cancelled eight of her summer 2023 shows.
