'Santa Speaker': Romualdez assures immediate release of House workers' Christmas bonus

Christmas is usually a time for good tidings, and on Monday, Dec. 5, House Speaker Martin Romualdez sounded a lot like Santa Claus.

Romualdez graced on Monday night the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the House of Representatives wherein he addressed the employees.

"It is in keeping with the spirit of the season that I have strived to give you a reason to smile this Christmas. As I said to you this morning, sinigurado natin na masaya ang pasko natin (we've ensured everyone a happy Christmas)," Romualdez, Leyte’s 1st district representative, said in his speech.

"So we will make sure that all bonuses and all Christmas cheer will be shared," he added, triggering loud cheers and applause among the people in attendance.

"That's why I mentioned my wife, the chairman of Accounts, to make sure that that is released as soon as possible...and to be extra generous please, to all," Romualdez said.

The House leader's wife is Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez.

"So as we light this tree, let us remember to share the blessing we receive this Christmas and offer a generous hand to those who need our help. Let us help brighten the lives of those whose Christmas may not be as glowing and as cheerful as ours," the Speaker further said.

The Christmas tree lighting was capped with a fireworks display.
