13,000 PWDs in Parañaque City to receive Christmas gift cheques

A total of 13,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Parañaque City will each receive a Christmas gift cheque worth P1,000 from the city government, according to Mayor Eric Olivarez.

During the regular Monday flag raising ceremony held at the City Hall quadrangle, Olivarez said the distribution of Christmas gift cheques to PWDs in the city’s 16 barangays will start this coming Sunday, Dec. 11 and will end on Dec. 17.

The mayor said the distribution of gift cheques is part of his administration’s commitment to improve the quality of life of all constituents, especially the poor and disadvantaged members of society.

“We want our PWDs to feel that they are being cared for, especially this Christmas season,” Olivarez said.

“The P1,000 gift cheques will enable them to purchase essential items and perhaps some food for the traditional Noche Buena on Christmas Eve.”

The mayor said that aside from the gift cheques for Christmas, PWDs also receive other forms of assistance from the City Government on a regular basis.

Olivarez said last month, a total of 615 students with disabilities were given school supplies by the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) under Dr. Sabas de Guzman as part of the National Children’s Month celebrations.

He also said that special education students in 11 SPED schools in the city also receive a P500 monthly allowance.

The mayor added that during the celebration of Women with Disabilities Month, 1,000 women with disabilities received food packs from the city government.
